Recognising Famous Poker Players

June 18th, 2009

There are many famous poker players in many different poker games. When it comes to why they’re famous, most people know. There are plenty of tournaments that go on yearly in the world, and if you tend to dominate them like most poker pros do, then you’ll be considered one yourself. But are they any other ways of becoming a famous poker player besides that? To simply put it, no; there aren’t any other ways. There are many successful gamblers who aren’t famous at all, and when it comes to the fame itself, it depends on a few things. If you don’t always win, you have to be very charismatic, or else you’ll just be forgettable. If you can win every tournament, your charisma doesn’t matter. But besides these facts, there are many great ways for improving your poker game, and it doesn’t matter which variant of poker you have in mind.

If you were to get into online poker, or gaming with an online casino that offers poker, you would be greatly increasing the chances you have of ever becoming the pro. Playing online poker is something that every great or famous poker player does, and in recent times, it’s become something that you have to do. It’s a great form of practice that not only helps you with your game, but can help you financially as well.

If a poker pro or famous poker player wanted to make a living by gambling with an online poker website, they probably could. It’s a lucrative field, and something that anyone of legal gambling age could do. It’s something worth looking into if you want to become good at online poker and something worth doing if you’re just bored and want to play some poker. Either way, you’ll have fun, and you won’t regret trying it out.

How to Prepare Yourself for Online Poker Tournament Playing

June 1st, 2009

If you’ve been playing some demo Poker games on the internet, do you think you’re ready to play for real money? Playing online Poker for free is one thing, actually participating in tournaments for real money is another deal altogether. Some of the best online gamblers in the world play in tournaments. However, some of the worst players do as well, therefore you should have some chance of winning at least.

All in all, online Poker tournaments are a mixed bag. All sorts of players try their luck at winning. Very few actually do, but mostly everyone enjoys themselves anyway. You’ll be glad to know that even if you don’t win any money, you should be thoroughly entertained anyway. Sure, there will be some aggressive players who will do anything to win, but mostly everyone understands that, despite its competitiveness, online Poker is still only a game.

So how can you find a good tournament to play in? All you have to do is search the internet and you’ll be presented with countless results. You can narrow down your search by typing in “poker tournament reviews”. The results will take you to sites filled with summaries and ratings of various online Poker rooms. You can look through them for some ideas. Since some online casinos are great and some are horrible, you will find that such reviews will come in handy.

Once you find a site or two that you like, you may be eligible for free bonuses. Some casino websites will allow you to use your bonuses for online Poker tournaments, so check to see if you can do that before signing up to play. Once you’re ready to begin, remind yourself not to become frustrated. Remember, no matter what happens, Poker is a fun game and playing it should be a fun experience, no matter what the outcome is like.

Playing Poker

December 10th, 2008

Poker is known as a form of gambling and has basically taken the gaming world by storm. Tournaments are held world wide and online games are available for anybody who has an interest in playing them. Poker, being a game of skill, is not the average boring card game and Poker takes on various forms and is played with and psychological element and strategy. The players determine their actions based on a logical, yet psychological, reasons and probabilities of winning. Out of all the poker games that are available, Texas Hold’em is the most popular form of poker. The poker games differ in the way the cards are dealt, how many rounds are played, the bets being placed and what is required to win.

Poker, as a card game, consists of a dealer, dealing the cards and the players placing their bets. In casual games the dealer usually has a white button that is rotated clockwise to indicate a nominal dealer who determines the betting order. The norm is dealing five cards, but this will obviously not necessarily be the number of cards being dealt, dependant on the type of poker that is being played. One of the players is usually required to make a forced bet in the first round. The dealer will then shuffle the cards, the card pack will be cut by the person sitting one chair to the right of the dealer, and the appropriate numbers of cards are then dealt one at a time to all the players. The cards get dealt face-up or face-down, dependent on what type of poker is being played. When the first round of betting starts, the game comes into full play, moving to the left. Players are required to, on their turn, match or raise the maximum bet, if they feel they have a chance of winning the pot or if they are bluffing, or they should fold, dropping out of the rest of the round completely. In between the hand, players can be dealt different cards, replacing some of the cards in their hand, or they can be dealt additional cards, dependant on what type of poker is being played.

The round will come to an end after all the players has matched the bet, raised the bet or folded. The bets are then gathered and placed in the central pot. When all the players at the table have folded, except one, that person automatically wins the pot, irrelevant of what cards they might be holding in their hand. After the final betting has taken place at the end of the round and there are still a few players left at the table, the cards are revealed and the winning hand takes the pot.

Bluffing comes into play when one of the players pretend to have a good hand, placing a high bet and signaling the other players, through perhaps, confidence, that he or she is going to win the pot. When a person “bluffs” they do not have a good hand and they are taking their chances in case the other players decide to fold.

In the final round, when there is more than one player left at the table, a showdown is required. A showdown takes place by means of revealing all the previously hidden cards and based on the poker variant, the best hand will win the pot.

Even though there are many forms of poker, the variations all contain similar hand ranking hierarchy and patterns, which makes it possible for the player to use the same strategy on all games. Variations entail the “straight game”, almost never used anymore. It is the basic form of Poker where a full hand is dealt to the players and each round a bet is placed, while raising and re-raising the bet is allowed. The “Stud game” is played in the form of “Seven-card stud”. It is played by dealing five cards. Each player is dealt two additional cards. Three cards are dealt face-down whilst four cards are dealt face-up. The player gets a choice of selecting the five best cards for his hand. The “Community game” consists of a variation of the stud and community cards. The Stud cards are dealt face-down to a player, giving him an incomplete hand. The Community cards are dealt face-up to the centre of the table. Community cards are used by the players to select the best five-card hand possible for them. Texas hold-em and Omaha are two the most popular games played that are part of the Community family.

Poker is one of the most played and enjoyed card games in the World. With its intricate ways of playing and extremely accurate strategies, it guarantees hours of entertainment to those who have the patience to play the game.
